Poles prefer to shop in retail centers rather than on e-commerce websites, according to a new report.

Growth from Knowledge (GfK), a global research company, conducted a detailed report on Poles' spending behaviors in shopping centers, which was published on Wednesday by the Polish Council of Shopping Centres (PRCH).

The report said that many customers entering a shopping center buy something during their visit, “more than 50 percent of such visits end in a purchase.”

Popular categories of products often purchased in shopping centers include groceries, home decor and furnishings, footwear and leather accessories, clothing and sports and electronics, according to Przemyslaw Dwojak from GfK.

The report also indicates that 40,000 shops in 600 shopping centers, are responsible for around 40% of the retail turnover, while over 60,000 online shops account for around 8.5 percent of the turnover.

The survey covered 105 shopping centers with different characteristics. The interviews were conducted among 5,071 respondents in 12 shopping centres as well as a nationwide online survey with a sample of 2,500 respondents.

The Polish Council of Shopping Centres is a not-for-profit association with more than 200 members operating in the retail and service sector.
