Polish cities that are supposed to buy zero or low-emmission buses in accordance with a new bill, are unable to cover the high costs, daily Gazeta Prawna reported on Monday.

A new draft amendment to the ‘eco-mobility’ law states that new buses for cities of over 100,000 residents will have to run on electricity or hydrogen.

However, municipalities are complaining about the higher costs incurred and shifting the burden of the green transition onto local governments, the daily wrote.

It added that local governments will have to reach the targets included in the bill, with 30 percent of all buses having zero to low carbon emissions by 2028.

The climate ministry claims that without the amendment, the fulfillment of thresholds included in the law may not be feasible and plans to shift the weight of change onto bigger cities.

The new rules on buses and low emissions are part of the new 'Green Deal' European legislation that plans to make EU industries more environment-friendly.
