Polish women tend to drive more reasonably than men, a report by the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) has shown.

According to the report, last year, women were responsible for only 23.7% of road accidents in the country.

The report pointed out that women drive cars in a prudent and responsible manner, rarely exceeding the permitted speed limit, and are more focused on driving while adhering to the traffic code. This is reflected in last year’s statistics, which show that women caused three times fewer road accidents than men.

The report added: “Research by the World Health Organization [WHO] proves that women less often die in road accidents compared to men.”

Anna Zielińska from the Polish Road Safety Observatory said: “Analyses also show that the risk of involvement in such an event, as calculated per kilometer, is from two to four times smaller in the case of women than men.”

According to ITS psychologist Ewa Odachowska Rogalska, mothers with children on board are an especially careful group of women drivers.

She explained that they usually drive safely for several key reasons:

Most importantly, their priority is to ensure the safety of the youngest, which naturally inclines them toward more cautious and thoughtful driving. The instinct to protect offspring makes mothers behave more safely. They pay more attention to traffic regulations, speed limits, and the behavior of other road users.

Similarly, the report from ITS added that studies show that women demonstrate greater patience and a better ability to divide attention.

These traits are extremely important in situations that may distract attention, such as transporting children. The ability to simultaneously control the situation on the road and the child makes mothers better cope in such situations, moreover, they drive more predictably and defensively.
