Poland’s trade exchange with the United Arab Emirates has reached a record high, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna said at the European Economic Congress on Wednesday. Polish Ambassador to the UAE Jakub Sławek also noted that cooperation between the two countries is on the best terms.

A large delegation of representatives from the UAE, which is the second largest economy in the Arab world after Saudi Arabia, arrived in Katowice, where the European Economic Congress has been underway since Tuesday. During a panel discussion on economic cooperation between Poland and the UAE, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna emphasized that, for both political and economic reasons, the Middle East is a priority area for the Polish government.

He also pointed to the energy sector, especially renewable energy, as one of the main platforms of cooperation between Polish entrepreneurs and Emirati entrepreneurs.
The Polish Ambassador to the UAE highlighted significant investments that underscore the robust economic ties between Poland and the UAE. These include the establishment of the first logistics center in Central and Eastern Europe by the Emirati retail giant LuLu Group, and the expansion of Polish luxury yacht builder Sunreef Yachts, which opened a new shipyard in the UAE.

Mutual trade turnover record

“In terms of our trade, it is an increase of 200%,” Ali Husain Makki, executive director of the logistics and trade facilitation sector of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), said.

The Polish government’s figures show that mutual trade turnover reached a record $1.3 billion in 2022, with Polish exports at nearly $980 million.

Makki pointed to the various financial incentives offered by the UAE, including a zero income tax rate for up to 375,000 dirhams ($102,100). He stressed that the UAE is “at the top when it comes to the possibility of doing business in the region,” while Abu Dhabi is the safest place in the world.

Asked about investments over the Vistula, Makki noted that the UAE places the greatest emphasis on the financial, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and tourism industries. “These are the key elements we want to focus on within 7-10 years,” he said. According to him, Poland could also serve as a hub from which the Emirates will export their goods.
