The three-day 16th European Economic Congress (ECE) begins on Tuesday morning in Katowice. The slogan for this year’s event is ‘Transform today, change tomorrow. Transformation for the future’; the recurrent theme, in addition to transformation, has been security issues.

Special guests at the congress opening will be Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Polish head of government has revealed that they both will present ‘a plan for Europe’.

Participants in the first plenary session, entitled ‘Europe - Transforming for the Future’, will include EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, MEP, former Prime Minister and former President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, as well as various business representatives.

The plenary session is an opportunity to sum up Poland’s 20-year membership in the European Union and discuss the priorities of the Polish presidency and the new architecture of European security.
The main thematic thrusts of the 2024 ECE are: Europe, geopolitics and the economy, energy, transformation, security, investment and finance, law and the economy, climate and sustainable economy, migration, diversity, labor market, digital economy, and new technologies.

Event organizer Wojciech Kuśpik highlighted, on the eve of the event, the difficult moment Europe is in with war abroad, the geopolitical situation, and other socio-economic and environmental challenges.

“We must undergo a transformation in every area of our lives. The future is constant change and constant transformation, for which we should be well prepared. We want to encourage as much conversation as possible during the congress,” Kuśpik said.

“It is impossible to make good regulations, to change Poland without an open dialogue between different communities,” he added.

Congress sessions will be attended by various representatives of the boards of directors of companies and institutions.

One axis of the program will be a series of meetings aimed at strengthening Poland’s economic and trade relations with other countries.

Representatives of Brazil, the Czech Republic, India, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the United States, or the United Arab Emirates will be present in Katowice.

Beyond the Katowice International Conference Center (ICC), there will be a European Economic Community (EEC) Green Planet, a zone on sustainable development, and the concept of a green city.
