As spring arrives in Poland, with its gentle weather, many Poles are eager to make the most of the upcoming May 1st and 3rd holidays, often seeking to extend them into a long weekend or even a week-long break. So the key question remains: where are they planning to spend their holiday?

In the first half of April, the Polish Tourist Organization asked Poles how they plan to spend this year’s May long weekend. Their research showed interesting changes compared to the previous year. This year, 43% of Poles will be traveling between May 1-5 or similar, which is 10 percentage points more than last year.

Four out of ten Poles plan on going to May Day.

Almost every fourth respondent (23%) plans to relax in the country. Every twelfth (8%) declared they will go abroad. Some respondents (12%) have not yet decided where they want to go yet.
Almost half of Poles don’t intend to take an overnight trip away from their place of residence, during the May weekend.

As for the destinations, mountains are the clear winner being the choice of 34% of Poles. 20% of respondents said they are either going to other cities or to the beach. Sopot, a town in Northern Poland, known for its health spas and sandy beach, remains the most expensive tourist destination.

However, Zakopane, a resort town in southern Poland, at the base of the Tatras Mountains, would end up being the busiest place, with an 86% occupation rate.
