Poland readies 500 mln euro subsidy for farmers struggling due to war in Ukraine

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture has presented a draft regulation on aid for farmers who are at risk of losing liquidity due to the war in Ukraine, worth nearly half a billion euros.

“It is proposed that assistance, worth approximately PLN 2.1 billion (EUR 485.2 million), for agricultural producers who are at risk of losing financial liquidity due to market restrictions caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine, will be financed from the Assistance Fund,” the draft regulation states.

Savings from public finance sector units or special budget reserves will supplement the Aid Fund.

The ministry said that there is also a possibility of issuing bonds to finance the aid by the state-owned development bank BGK.

Polish farmers have continued to protest across the country against the influx of cheap agricultural goods from Ukraine and new European plans to make farming more eco-friendly, the so-called Green Deal.
