There was a serious grass fire in the Połonina Caryńska area of the Bieszczady Mountains on Monday evening. Nine firefighting units fought the fire.

Firefighters received reports of a fire on Monday at 6:24 p.m. The fire raged in the region, high up in the meadows, where fire trucks were not able to reach it.

Consequently, rescuers were brought to the site by quads. Eighty-four people from the National Fire Service, the Volunteer Fire Service, the Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service, and the Forestry Commission worked to put out the flames. Fireman Krzysztof Brudek, on duty at the Regional Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Rzeszow, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that fire flappers, handheld firefighting equipment used to suppress fires, extinguished the fire.

Połonina Caryńska is the second most famous polonyna in the Bieszczady Mountains after Wetlinska and a very popular tourist destination.
