U.S. Congress approves USD 228 mln security aid for Baltic states: Estonian MoD

The U.S. Congress has passed a bill allocating USD 228 million for the security of the Baltic states. This was announced on Saturday in a statement by the Estonian Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry highlighted that this year, the United States has provided support to the country in the amount of USD 47.3 million under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.

The Estonian Minister of Defense, Hanno Pevkur, assessed that “U.S. support has significantly expedited the implementation of several projects in the field of military infrastructure and development potential in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.”

He added, “The good news is that the support is increasing compared to last year.”

Thanks to the Baltic Security Initiative (BSI), established in 2020, the U.S. Department of Defense has been supporting the development of the defensive capabilities of the Baltic countries and their mutual interoperability.

Last year, as part of the initiative, the Baltic countries received USD 225 million; in 2022, the financial aid amounted to USD 169 million.
