Blockades by Polish farmers on the Polish-Ukrainian border are hurting Polish companies operating in Ukraine, reports a business organization.

The International Association of Polish Entrepreneurs in Ukraine (MSPPU) warned on Wednesday that the blockades could hit the business opportunities of Polish companies operating in Ukraine, and undermine Poland’s involvement in the country’s reconstruction.

At a news conference in Kyiv, Szymon Waszczyn, the head of MSPPU, said: “We are suffering losses due to delays in the delivery of materials and a failure to fulfill contracts.”

“Our partners are wondering if we plan to stay on the Ukrainian market as we are pulling out of tenders,” he added.

According to the group, the escalation of protests in Poland and the response to them in Ukraine are detrimental to both nations’ economies and have a negative impact on trade and relations.

“We want to alleviate some of the tension that these blockades are causing between our societies,” he stated.

“We vehemently condemn any actions and remarks that foster the development of anti-Polish and anti-Ukrainian sentiments, becoming a source of misunderstandings and emotional tensions between Poles and Ukrainians,” the MSPPU added.
