The 48-meter Garisenda Tower, which rises into the sky of the Italian city next to the taller Asinelli tower, was built in 1109, and is one of Bologna's symbols.

It is photographed by tourists from all over the world visiting the city in central Italy, famous for its good food and red-brick buildings.

On the website of the municipality of Bologna, it says that a “highly critical static situation caused by the deterioration of the materials that make up the base” has been identified.

Residents say they are concern about the possible collapse of the tower.

“This is a shame, because the towers were a symbol of wealth and importance for the families who lived there. There are only two left, and if this one collapses too, it would be one tower less”, Bologna resident, Stefano, said.
