The formation of a seven-member Transitional Council in Haiti is facing delays. This council is intended to replace the current government, led by Prime Minister Ariel Henry, which has proven ineffective against the escalating threat posed by criminal groups and is on the brink of resignation. Meanwhile, violence continues to ravage the nation, exacting a heavy toll on Haiti’s population.

Following the resignation of Haiti’s unelected Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who proved powerless against the gangs that control much of the country, Haitian politicians proceeded to form a Presidential Council that will attempt to normalize the situation in the country.

On Monday, Haiti’s neighbors began bolstering their defenses and recalling embassy staff as the gang conflict in the Caribbean nation escalated. In response, Haiti's de facto government issued a 72-hour state of emergency and imposed nightly curfews.

International connectivity to Haiti was disrupted on Sunday following violent clashes in the capital that have damaged communications and led to a prison break at the main penitentiary as a major gang leader seeks to oust Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

A wave of panic swept through downtown Port-au-Prince on Thursday, with an outburst of violence marked by heavy gunfire and improvised barricades, and a gang leader took responsibility saying it was a demonstration against authorities.
