Poland has banned imports of a range of Slovak products after outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease were confirmed on farms in Slovakia.
The announcement was made by Poland's Ministry of Agriculture on Friday, which detailed restrictions that covers live animals, meat and dairy items.
The move comes after cases of the disease were confirmed on agricultural land close to Slovakia’s border with Hungary.
The Czech Republic announced on Thursday that it had banned livestock imports from Slovakia.
The Polish ban will remain in place until the European Commission introduces its own regulatory measures.
Poland has been free from foot-and-mouth since 1971.
The highly contagious disease affects livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs, causing weight loss and blisters on the feet and in the mouths of infected animals.
