A Polish alpaca farm has launched a desperate appeal to help find one of its missing alpacas amid fears it may have been kidnapped.

Two-year-old Mango disappeared in mysterious circumstances from his home in the northwest of the country last week.

But after finding no signs of a break-out or damage to fencing, Mango’s owners at the Alpakowa Łąka farm in the village of Tanowo now fear he may have been stolen.

Posting on social media, they described how they have been scouring nearby woodlands in the hope of finding the animal, who was last seen on December 5.

"Every day we're searching different parts of the forest with a fine-toothed comb," they said.

"There is absolutely no sign of him."

'Mango the alpaca is not edible'

Mango has characteristically crooked bottom front teeth, is all white and is not that large, according to his owners.
They said that he was raised with the herd at the farm and would not know how to get in a car or be taken by a leash.

"He doesn't know the outside world," they wrote.

Fearing that he may have been stolen, the distraught farmers outlined several reasons why potential thieves should return him home immediately.

“One alpaca can't survive alone; it needs a herd," they said, adding that Mango was "not suitable for consumption."

“Our alpacas and horses receive vaccinations and antibiotics (in case of illness), which make them unsuitable as meat for consumption—we have veterinary records to prove it.”

A potential sighting on Sunday, December 8, brought no result and the farm has reported the disappearance to the police.

The heartbroken owners, who also keep goats, sheep and rabbits, called on anyone with information to come forward.

“We won’t give up,” they said. “We’ll keep searching and are even prepared to conduct genetic testing if necessary.”
