Described by some as Poland’s most delicious attraction, a pair of ‘miniature gingerbread towns’ have opened in Wrocław and Gliwice.
The Wrocław version—slightly bigger than that found in Gliwice—was created using 200 kilograms of honey and 50 kilos of spices, as well as icing made from 421 eggs, 210 lemons and 465 kilos of powdered sugar, and is reportedly the biggest such town in the world.
Featuring a whopping 1,600 kilos of gingerbread, elements include recreations of landmarks such as the town hall, train station, hundreds of Old Town tenements, and the city’s zoo.
Forming part of the Kolejkowo miniature railway kingdom, the two gingerbread towns also feature moving chocolate trains, thousands of lights and handcrafted figures made of sugar.
“After baking, the gingerbread is quite crumbly, but over time it becomes more delicate thanks to a carefully selected mixture of spices—each element was created in large molds, from which we precisely cut out shapes,” said Jakub Paczyński, the founder of Kolejkowo.
“The icing was done by hand, with special attention made to the selection of colors—the final effect is the result of many months of work,” he added.
The two towns will remain open until the beginning of March and can be visited in Wrocław’s Sky Tower and Gliwice’s Europa Centralna shopping center.
