A man in southern Poland took to Facebook appealing for internet users to help a homeless woman he met on the street who was a teacher and is now an artist.

On October 8, a man called Eryk posted a message on the Facebook page of Smakosze.pl calling on internet users to help a homeless woman named Barbara, or more familiarly Basia. He had met her on the street in the southern tourist city of Krakow in southern Poland while she was selling some of her paintings.

Barbara is a former teacher and artist and is currently homeless. Eryk didn’t go into the details of how she ended up in this housing crisis, but mentioned that “her story is really sad.”

He informed people that she was attacked not long ago.

“A few days ago, someone chased her away with a knife in her hand from Kazimierz where she was standing there selling her artwork,” he said.

He remarked that she is an “educated person” and had sensed “kindness and cordiality” when speaking to her. He decided to help her by urging internet users to buy paintings from her and share his post.

“Because of my belief in people and the power of the Internet, I encourage you to buy one of her pictures from the lady. She has a lot of them and believe it - they are magical!” - he said.

“Ms. Basia will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. at Żabka on Dietla Street 91. Please feel free to bump the post,” he said.

The woman’s story moved many people.

“Thanks for this post. Today few people are interested in another person and his fate. Great respect for the man,” writes one user.

“I am in favor and would also be happy to do a raffle to help Ms. Basia,” another person responded.
