A resident of Poland’s northern port city of Gdańsk received a nasty shock when she found a snake hiding behind a wardrobe in her home.
The terrified woman called city patrol officers for help, worried that she could be in danger.
On its website, the local city patrol force said that the creature had probably slithered into the house when the woman decided to let some air in and left her front door wide open.
“[The snake], taking advantage of the tenant's inattention, slipped into the house and hid behind a wardrobe,” it added.
But it turned out that the unwelcome visitor was not a poisonous European adder, as the worried woman had suspected. Experts said it was a harmless grass snake.
The incident happened in the seaside district of Sobieszewska in Gdańsk on Monday. City patrol officers removed the snake, placed it into a container for transporting animals, and then released it into the wild.
