A French court ordered a Belarusian performer to leave the EU after he tried to dig up Vincent van Gogh's grave in an attempt to “bring the artist back to life” on the 134th anniversary of his death.

In late July, Aliaksei Kuzmich was apprehended by police at Auvers-sur-Oise cemetery near Paris. Dressed in a white suit and wearing makeup, he arrived with a shovel and alarm clock, claiming he wanted to "restore the artist to the world."

He started digging around the grave, shouting, "Rise, artist!" The incident, named "Renaissance," was recorded and shared online.
The court ruled Kuzmich must leave the EU, excluding Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

If he does not leave voluntarily, he will be deported to Belarus. Additionally, Kuzmich received a suspended one-month prison sentence and a €3,000 fine.

In Belarus, the controversial performer faces criminal charges for protesting against President Alexander Lukashenko's regime, having been arrested and tortured during the 2020 elections for attaching a ballot with a penis drawn on it, after which he managed to flee the country.
