Following the announcement of early elections in France, the anti-establishment party with right-wing tendencies, National Rally (RN), has named its candidate for Prime Minister.

With no surprise, RN president Jordan Bardella, 28, is the party’s choice for the position, as announced by Vice President Sébastien Chenu.

In an interview with RTL radio, Chenu explained that Bardella’s candidacy is bolstered by public support, highlighted by the RN’s recent victory in the European Parliament elections, where the party secured 31.3% of the vote on Sunday.

Chenu also noted that the National Rally does not plan to form pre-election coalitions with right-wing parties. Instead, it aims to be a platform for individuals who wish to support RN.

He argued that an alliance with the far-right party, Reconquest, would hinder the National Rally’s growth.

Following exit poll results showing a significant lead for the far-right in the European Parliament elections, President Macron dissolved the parliament and scheduled early elections for the National Assembly. The first round is set for June 30, followed by the second round on July 7.
