Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová announced that the country will train 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers in 2024, but will not send its instructors to Ukraine.

In 2023, the Czech Republic already trained 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers on its training grounds. This year the Prague government has also approved the same number of soldiers for training.

Černochová noted that reaching this number depends on recruitment progress in Ukraine.

Addressing the French initiative to send military instructors directly to Ukraine, she explained that due to the proximity of their training grounds in Libavá to the Ukrainian border, the Czech Republic does not intend to send its instructors into Ukraine.

Earlier on Friday, during a meeting with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Czech defense minister said: “It is the responsibility of the democratic world to provide Armed Forces of Ukraine with everything they need to defend themselves.

“The Czech Republic has supported Ukraine since the very beginning of the conflict and has provided tanks and combat vehicles, as well as attack helicopters.”

Poland has also been involved in training Ukrainian troops as part of the European Union’s collective efforts under the EUMAM Ukraine mission.
