Tusk’s coalition takes lead in EU elections, but far-right makes significant gains, says new poll

Civic Coalition, the dominant grouping in Poland’s coalition government, is most likely to win the majority of Polish seats in the upcoming European Parliamentary elections, according to a new Ipsos poll.

According to the poll, 34.5% of those surveyed said they would vote for the Civic Coalition (KO), an increase of 1.5 points on a previous survey carried out at the end of May.

Opposition party Law and Justice (PiS), which was the ruling party in the former government, saw its support drop by 2.2 points to 29.2%.

The far right-wing Confederation party took third place in the survey with a huge 4.3 percentage point increase in support, while the center-right Third Way, a constituent party in the coalition government, saw support plunge by 2.6 points.

The poll added that 60% of respondents said they would vote in the elections on Sunday.

According to Dr. Dominik Batorski from the University of Warsaw, if the poll proves to be correct, KO will have 20 MEPs in the European Parliament, PiS will have 16, the Confederation party seven MEPs, Third Way six and the Left - 4.
