Polish diplomats are monitoring Moscow’s actions after a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman vowed to take retaliatory steps against Polish envoys in Russia.

On Monday, Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced new restrictions on travel for Russian diplomats within the country. On Thursday, Zakharova said Russia would take “retaliatory steps” against the Polish Embassy in Moscow and consulates in Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, and St. Petersburg.

“We have no information from the Russian side. Of course, we are expecting it. We will analyze what the Russian side will give us, and we will take appropriate action if necessary,” Polish Ambassador to Moscow Krzysztof Krajewski told Polskie Radio.

From June 1, Russian diplomats will be allowed only within the provinces where their posts are located.

This does not apply to the Russian ambassador to Poland, as well as the consul general and the head of the embassy’s consular department.

According to Sikorski, the restrictions placed on Russian diplomats are related to suspicions linking them to recent diversionary attacks that have occurred around Poland.
