On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared that it would “take steps” against the Polish embassy in Moscow and other Polish diplomatic missions.
“Russia will take retaliatory steps against the Polish embassy in Moscow and the consulate-general in Irkutsk, Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg,” Russian ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced.
She claims that on May 28 a memo was sent to the Russian embassy in Warsaw instructing it to notify the Polish Foreign Ministry ahead of time of any plans for Russian diplomatic mission staff to travel outside of the missions’ home provinces as of June 1.
The ambassador, general consuls, and head of the consular department of the embassy are exempt from this requirement.
Zakharova said the note refers to reporting in advance the names of traveling persons, the date, purpose and route of their departure, as well as data on means of transportation.
The requirement applies to employees of the Russian embassy in Warsaw and consulates general in: Gdańsk, Kraków and Poznań.
