The southern Polish city of Stalowa Wola is set to implement a project aiming to develop both the space industry and the region, according to reports from local authorities.

As part of the “Space 4 Talents” program, over €6.2 million will be earmarked, among other things, for equipping local laboratories and purchasing needed equipment used to conduct space projects. The European Commission is co-financing the initiative, bearing 80% of the cost.

“Our city can become a place of realization of space projects, space technology, which is so much a part of the new development strategy of Stalowa Wola,” said the city’s Mayor.

According to the governor of the Podkarpackie province, “Stalowa Wola will be on the forefront of space activities aimed precisely at young people, people who have some passion, who have hidden competencies that will be stimulated here.”

A large facility, which is to encompass a laboratory equipped with equipment and software to explore the secrets of space as well as an academy where young people will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work in the space industry, is already under construction.

Ultimately, the city wants to attract entrepreneurs in the space industry and thus help the region develop economically.

The project is scheduled to run until February 2028.
