A Council for Cooperation with Ukraine will be established to support the country and its reconstruction, a Civic Coalition (KO) MP told the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
“Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has signed an ordinance to this effect,” Paweł Kowal said on Friday, adding that he had been appointed the council’s head.
“It will be an organization composed of scientists and businesspeople as well as representatives of the government and local government administration,” Kowal added.
According to Kowal, the point is to establish an institution that will have “a comprehensive attitude to Polish-Ukrainian relations.”
“They [Polish-Ukrainian relations - TVP World] are unique not only due to historical issues but also owing to Poland’s commitment to Ukraine, which has been defending itself, and to the role played by Poland in its rebuilding,” Kowal continued.
Nordic, Baltic countries to establish an expert group
On Wednesday, the Swedish Foreign Ministry announced that the eight Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland) and the Baltic nations (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) agreed during their meeting on Sweden’s Gotland island to assemble a group of experts to support Ukraine’s efforts to join the European Union.
“This offers an opportunity to facilitate Ukraine’s path towards membership in the European family,” said the Swedish Foreign Minister, Tobias Billström.
