Caritas Poland to earmark EUR 305,000 for African projects in 2024

Caritas Poland has announced its commitment to allocate over PLN 1.3 million (EUR 305,000) to support various projects in Africa in 2024. The initiatives, which focus on nutrition, medical aid, and education, will be implemented in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. The aim is to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in these regions.

The aid will not only consist of nearly 50 tons of food supplies, including rice, beans, corn, and oil for 200 households, but will also involve conducting mid-upper arm circumference tests for children aged up to 6 years old to identify those most affected by malnutrition.

The organization highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Africa, particularly in the Sahel zone, where “10 million children require immediate food assistance,” and in Burkina Faso, where 40% of the population lives below the poverty line.

Burkina Faso, currently under the rule of a military junta led by Ibrahim Traore, has been identified by the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) for 2023 as the country most affected by terrorism, leading to the displacement of 3 million people.

This announcement comes in the wake of attacks on three villages in the northern part of the country in mid-February, which resulted in at least 170 fatalities.

Burkina Faso is implementing the nutrition program for the second consecutive year.

Contributions to support these efforts can be made through various methods, including online donations at www.caritas.pl/afryka, BLIK transfers with the message “AFRYKA” to +48 668 070 000, bank transfers to specified accounts with the note “AFRYKA”, or by sending an SMS to 72052 with the message “AFRYKA” (approximate cost: EUR 0.62 incl. VAT).
