On Saturday, April 6, Polish and Ukrainian activists are organizing an artistic performance event titled “International Genocide Trade Fairs” at Castle Square in Warsaw to protest against further trade between the European Union and Russia, and to call on the European Union to impose a full embargo on Russian products.
The goal of the artistic performance that accompanied the protest was to draw attention to the double standards of the EU and to urge an immediate stop to the trade between the EU and Russia, which has so far been conducted without obstacles and helps fund Russia’s war chest and thereby the rockets that fall on Ukrainian cities.
“The main reason we gather here today is to stop trade with Russia, both hidden and open trade,” Viktoria Pogrebniak, an activist from Euromaidan-Warsaw Initiative, told TVP World’s Agata Dura.
Russia continues to export its grain, oil, gas, diamonds, and foodstuffs to EU countries, bypassing sanctions. According to the results for the year 2023, Russia exported goods worth EUR 50.6 billion to EU countries, while the EU exported goods worth EUR 38.3 billion to Russia.
Over 200 international corporations have not left the Russian market and generated USD 214 billion in revenue in 2022 through their Russian enterprises, paying USD 3.5 billion in taxes.
“Each participant in the action becomes part of a global voice for justice. We demand an end to the trade that fuels the Russian war machine killing people in Ukraine. Our message is clear: you cannot do business on blood and pain,” said Mykola Petryga, an activist of the Euromaidan-Warsaw Initiative, the main organizer of the event.
