The Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz called for an international investigation into an Israeli attack on a humanitarian convoy that resulted in the death of seven volunteers, including a Polish national. He insisted on Poland’s participation in uncovering the truth about the incident.
“We demand an international investigation into the case, we demand that Poland also participate in the investigation… which resulted in the death of our compatriot,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
The Israeli Ambassador to Warsaw, Jakov Livne, described the attack during an online interview with TVP World as a “tragic event that should not have happened” and stressed that Israel will conduct their own investigation.
In a subsequent interview posted on the YouTube channel Kanal Zero on Wednesday, the ambassador said what had happened was a tragic accident and the kind of error that happens in a conflict environment at night. However, he avoided apologizing and instead expressed sorrow over the death of the volunteers.
Responding to Livne's interview, the Polish defense chief criticized the ambassador’s lack of reflection on his words and the incident, stating he should apologize.
Kosiniak-Kamysz demanded not only an apology and an international investigation with Polish involvement but also compensation for the family of the deceased Polish citizen.
He emphasized that offering an apology, compensation, and clarifying the situation are basic decency measures.
“Offering apologies, providing compensation, and seeking clarity in the incident are acts of basic decency. When a life is lost, it is essential to honor the solemnity of their passing. Failing to do so is fundamentally unacceptable,” Kosiniak Kamysz stressed.
