Russian elections were an ‘imitation’: sociologist for TVP World

Sergei Erofeev, a sociologist at Rutgers University, spoke to TVP World following the announcement of the election results in Russia.

Erofeev emphasized that the lack of democratic elections in Russia is a far from new phenomenon.

We’ve [Russia] had falsified elections since 1996. Many commentators say that the only free and fair elections took place in Russia just before the collapse of the Soviet Union, when Yeltsin was elected president for the first time,” Erofeev said.
Erofeev highlighted that the claimed margin of victory was actually quite predictable.

Looking back, it’s clear that Putin’s results have been growing from election to election, so it was easy to predict that this time the fake percentage for Putin would be somewhere between 85 and 90%,” the sociologist explained.

“Golos [The Movement for Defence of Voters' Rights] the truly independent election monitoring agency in Russia, whose leaders are now in prison and the others are pushed out of the country. Golos used one word for every aspect of this election. The word is imitation,” Erofeev stated.
