Poland’s minister of agriculture is to meet his Ukrainian counterpart on Monday to discuss the movement of goods and agricultural products between the two countries.

"Russia has pushed the European Union, including Poland and Ukraine, out of certain markets,” Siekierski said.

"All this has influenced the problem of profitability and the profitability of agricultural production," he added.

Siekierski said Poland wanted to establish bilateral rules with Ukraine "related to the flow of goods, including agricultural products," adding that Poland had consent for this from the European Commission, the EU's executive arm.

He went on to say that the European Union has to prepare certain regulations to ensure that excess grain is directed to world markets where there is demand for it.

The announcement comes as Poland's parliament passed a resolution on Thursday calling on the EU to impose sanctions on Russian and Belarusian agricultural imports.

It also wants the EU to protect domestic markets from "excessive imports" of Ukrainian produce, and to withdraw "unreasonable and costly" climate policies.
