Polish farmers on Friday began their protest in Budzisko, a village in the Podlaskie province in north-eastern Poland, close to the border with Lithuania.

Police have reported that close to 30 people began to protest at the border crossing but that the road was not currently totally blocked.

The governor of the province said that the organizers of the demonstration announced that entry from Lithuania to Poland would be blocked for vehicles with a permissible weight of over 18 tonnes and that the left lane would remain passable.

The main goal of the protest, which is planned to last until March 7, is to check and limit the transport of Ukrainian grain to Lithuania and then back to Poland.

Farmers want the Lithuanian side to introduce a ban on grain imports from Ukraine and implement grain transit regulations that are similar to those in force in Poland.

Polish farmers have been continuing their protests across the country against the Green Deal, the EU’s climate neutrality scheme, and imports of cheap Ukrainian produce.
