A sheep, being dubbed Britain’s loneliest by media outlets, has been rescued from a secluded beach in Scotland’s Highlands after enduring a two-year wait.

Now named Fiona by her rescuers, the ewe was hauled up a cliff face with a rope by a team of local farmers earlier this month.

The animal was first spotted by kayakers two years ago according to local media reports and although alone survived on grasses and fresh water at the bottom of the cliff near the shoreline.

Her coat was badly overgrown but has now been sheared.

“Fiona appeared to be in good condition and seemed ‘content’ following her rescue,” an inspector from Scotland’s Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Janet Proudlock said.
