A man who allegedly kept a woman locked up in a homemade cell for half a decade and subjected her to repeated sexual and physical abuse is facing life in jail.

A Russian court has sentenced a Ukrainian citizen who was arrested in Kherson during the city’s occupation by Russian forces to 10.5 years in a penal colony, accusing her of espionage on behalf of Ukraine.

According to a report published by the Gremi Personal work agency, a majority of physical workers among migrants who found employment in Poland through the agency are female. The authors of the study attribute this change in gender proportions in the labor market to the war in Ukraine.

At least 71 women have died this year due to domestic violence in Turkey. On a single day, February 27th, seven of them were murdered by their former or current husbands. They were shot or stabbed.
