Latvia: gov’t approves gradual replacement of Russian language in schools
Schools in Latvia will begin to phase out Russian as a second foreign language in primary education from the 2026/2027 school year, according to changes approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, April 23. Schools are required to gradually replace Russian with one of the official languages of the European Union (EU).
