Polish police have dismantled an illegal cigarette production operation, seizing goods and equipment worth nearly €1 million.

The strategy has faced backlash, including from junior coalition partners.

The Group of Seven (G7) nations are to set up specialized police units to investigate trafficking of migrants, Italy's interior minister said on Friday, as part of efforts to tackle irregular migration.

Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued over 360,000 visas for citizens of Muslim and African countries on the order of members of the former Law and Justice government, a report the Polish Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has said.

This involved a total of thirteen trucks carrying such cargo. The investigation was initiated by the prosecutor’s office in Suwałki, north-east Poland.
