892 individuals, including at least 101 calves born in 2023, were counted during the winter inventory of European bison living in the wild in the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest and its adjacent areas, as reported by the Białowieża National Park. Last year, over 60 fewer bison were counted.

The Wrocław Zoo, in southwestern Poland, recently calibrated the birth of two European bison named Pomelo and Podgrzybek. They are now about 30–40 kilograms each and only drink milk; however, in the future, they will eat hay, greens, and vegetables. They belong to a species that once became extinct in the wild and was saved thanks to cooperation between zoos.
