A dog narrowly escaped death after swallowing a sausage filled with nails during a routine walk with its owner.

Ora the dog had been enjoying a park in the village of Dobrzykowice in western Poland when she came across the deadly lump of the meat scattered across a road.

Happily wolfing it down, her horrified owner immediately realised something was wrong when she began howling and vomiting blood.

Rushing her to a veterinary clinic, surgeons then spent five hours carefully removing 12 nails from her stomach.

The 4 Paws of Wrocław animal rescue group, which found Ora a home two years ago, posted on Facebook: “It's good that the dog's owner quickly noticed and collected the remaining nails.

“In such cases, time is crucial, and only the quick intervention of the night clinic team ensured that the five-hour operation ended successfully.”

The group added that the incident ‘is not the first case.”

In eerily similar cases, two dogs died and three others needed emergency treatment after being poisoned by sausages in the north of the country last year.
And authorities in the tourist city of Krakow released a ‘danger map’ earlier this year to help dog owners track locations where toxic substances had been found in meat left out for dogs.

Following the latest incident, veterinarians are now urging pet owners, particularly those in eastern Wrocław, to remain vigilant while walking their animals.

Both the rescue group and Ora’s owner now plan to file a police report, citing potential animal cruelty.

Under Polish law, those convicted of animal abuse face up to three years in prison, with sentences of up to five years for particularly cruel acts.

Authorities are expected to investigate the case further as concerns grow over the safety of pets in the area.
