A former deputy CEO of Russian state energy giant Yukos was found dead on the pavement in front of his apartment building amid local media reports that he fell from the window of his Moscow flat.
Pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Mash reported that Mikhail Rogachev had been suffering from advanced cancer. It added that he had left a farewell letter and that investigators believed he had committed suicide.
But according to independent Telegram channel VChk-OGPU, sources “from Rogachev’s close circle” categorically denied that he had been suffering from cancer.
His family said Rogachev had breakfast with them, was in his usual mood, and that nothing indicated he intended to commit suicide.
The Lenta news website pointed out that several high-ranking managers of Russian energy companies died in 2022 alone.
The head of transport for Gazprom Invest, Leonid Shulman, allegedly committed suicide on January 30.
Alexander Tulyakov, an assistant director of corporate security at the Unified Settlement Center of Gazprom, responsible for Gazprom’s finances, was found dead on February 25, with the death being deemed suicide.
Vladislav Avayev, a former deputy CEO of Gazprombank, was found dead on April 18 along with his wife and daughter in the family’s Moscow flat in what was pronounced an extended suicide.

Meanwhile, the chair of Lukoil, Ravil Maganov, died on September 1, 2022, after falling out of a sixth-floor window at a Moscow hospital.
Several more suspicious deaths of high-ranking businessmen in the energy sector, mostly pronounced suicides, occurred in 2023 and this year, in addition to dozens of deaths of various high-ranking officials and businessmen who made their career working in other sectors and who often had close links to the Kremlin.
