Three MEP’s from Poland’s far-right party Konfederacja (Confederation) have come under fire after joining a new far-right alliance in the European Parliament (EP).

Stanisław Tyszka, Marcin Sypniewski and Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik have joined forces with Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and smaller parties from France, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Spain, Lithuania, Hungary and the Czech Republic to form the EP’s third far-right alliance.

Called the Europe of Sovereign Nations, the group will now take its place alongside Patriots for Europe, which is led by France’s Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, and Hungary’s Fidesz party founded by the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

But Polish MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk has now slammed the move by Konfederacja members as “shocking”.

“Many of the AfD representatives are accused of pro-Russianism, contacts with Lukashenko and Russophile views,” he said, quoted by niezalezna.pl.

“There are also revisionist trends towards Poland and Polish borders.

“There are attempts to whitewash Wehrmacht and SS soldiers.

“It is shocking for us that Polish MEPs see the will to cooperate with the AfD.”

The Alternative for Germany was expelled from a European Parliament group called Identity and Democracy in March this year after AfD member Maximilian Krah told the Italian daily ‘La Repubblica’ that not all members of the SS were criminals.

Konfederacja sprang to international notoriety when member Grzegorz Braun caused uproar in Poland’s parliament at the end of last year when he used a fire extinguisher to put out the candles on a menorah, which had been lit to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
