Ukraine’s path to NATO is irreversible as the alliance is ready to welcome the country, Polish President Andrzej Duda has said.

Referring to the ongoing gathering of NATO leaders in Washington, the president said unity, resilience, and readiness were the most important aspects of the summit.

“NATO is a defense alliance. It will not attack anyone, but it will defend every rush of land,” he said,” adding that the summit “will send a clear message that Ukraine's path to join the Alliance is irreversible, in the sense that NATO is ready to welcome the country into its ranks.”

“I hope that at the next NATO summit in The Hague, there will be a decision to send Kyiv an official invitation”, he added.

He also pointed out that no one from the outside can block Ukraine’s accession. “It is decided by the Alliance countries and the Ukrainian public, whose voice is clear,” Duda said.

“Today the discussion is only about the date of accession.”

The ongoing NATO summit in Washington is the tenth in which President Andrzej Duda is participating.
