Poland’s Senate adopted a bill on Wednesday extending the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland and revising policies governing benefits and education.

Under the amended rules, Ukrainians fleeing the war in their homeland will have their legal residency in Poland extended until September 30, 2025. The extension applies to Ukrainians with a Polish national ID (PESEL) number. The draft law also prolongs their rights to access health care and to receive social and family welfare payments.

The bill, which will now go to the president to be signed into law, links payment of the 800 złoty (187 euro) monthly child benefit and the annual 300 złoty (70 euro) school supplies subsidy to compulsory schooling.

The bill, which was adopted by the lower house a week ago, was passed in the Senate by 87 votes to four, with one Senator abstaining.
