Ahead of a crucial government gathering in Katowice, the State Protection Service (SOP) and the Internal Security Agency (ABW) have uncovered potential eavesdropping devices in the meeting room where top officials are slated to convene.

According to Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister overseeing special services, SOP and ABW operatives collaborated to detect and dismantle

suspected eavesdropping equipment in the Katowice venue earmarked for the Council of Ministers' session.

In his post on the X platform, Dobrzyński also stated that “the services are conducting further activities in this matter.”

“We will clarify the matter to the end,” assured Special Services Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak. Head of the Chancellery Jan Grabiec added that the facility, in which the government meeting is scheduled to take place, has been checked and “the government will work normally.”

The upcoming government session, scheduled for Tuesday, is intricately tied to the inauguration of the 16th European Economic Congress. Notable dignitaries such as Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are expected to headline discussions focusing on transformation and security.
The off-site meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled to begin at 12:00 in the building of the Silesian Provincial Government Office in Katowice.

During the session, ministers are expected to discuss, among other things, a draft law on the energy voucher, according to which the maximum price of electricity in the second half of 2024 is to be set at 500 złotys (€115) per MWh for households and 693 złotys (€160) per MWh for local government units, public utility entities, and small and medium-sized enterprises. Currently, the maximum price of energy for households is 412 złotys (€ 95) net, excluding VAT and excise duty, per 1 MWh for recipients who do not exceed designated limits.
