Today is a great Polish holiday in Brussels marked by the largest modern Polish festival in Europe. The third edition of the Polish Day is being organized with the participation of Polish provinces, organizations and schools. This time, it takes place at a unique occasion - the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union.

The NGO “Sztabki” is responsible for preparing the event. “We combine tradition with modernity,” Jacek Waldhaus, head of the organization told the Polish Radio.

All provinces will present themselves during the festival. There will be pierogi making, lace sewing, climbing lessons under the guidance of the Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service, but also a 5D cinema.

“This is to show Poland in Europe in a modern way,” Waldhaus added.

One hundred young volunteers, Poles and representatives of the Polish Diaspora, will help organize the event.

The Polish Institute in Brussels has focused on promoting language and literature, so there will be Polish language workshops for foreigners and a meeting with Polish writers living in Belgium.

There will also be interactive quizzes about Polish history and different regions of Poland. Animal Nature in the City

Grażyna Plebanek, who has been invited to participate in the meeting, is scheduled to speak, among other things, about her book dedicated to life in Brussels, entitled “Animal Nature in the City”

“This book probably wouldn’t have been written, if it wasn’t for the fact that a group of enthusiasts, working hard 20 years ago, opened the door to Europe for Poles,” the writer said.

“Being in Europe means that we can get rid of complexes, that we can cooperate with people, communicate with them and create together,” Plebanek added.

The Polish Day is being organized in the very center of Brussels, in the Parc du Cinquantenaire. It will end with an evening concert by the Polish singer Katarzyna Nosowska.
