The second round of Poland's local elections started at 7am local time on Sunday. Poles are choosing their municipal heads, town presidents and city mayors in a run-off to the April 7 vote.
The second round of voting takes place in 748 localities, including in nine provincial capitals (Gorzów Wielkopolski, Kielce, Kraków, Olsztyn, Poznań, Rzeszów, Toruń, Wrocław and Zielona Góra), where no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round.
Polling stations are open between 7am and 9pm, but the voting may be prolonged as a result of extraordinary events, e.g. flood, construction or transport disaster or the need to print additional ballots.
This time, the candidate with the most support wins the election, with no 50 percent threshold applied.
To take an active part in the elections, an ID confirming one’s identity is required.
