The subject of health education will become part of the school curriculum from September 2025, the Education Minister Barbara Nowacka announced at a press conference on Friday.

The new program will replace the current family life education classes.

Nowacka said that the lessons would cover topics such as mental and physical health, healthy eating, preventive measures, addiction issues, and sex education. The subject will appear in schools on September 1, 2025, with the start of the new school year.

“A team has been created to develop the core curriculum,” the minister said.

The subject will be taught in grades IV–VIII (pupils aged 10–14) of primary schools and grades I–II (age 15–16) of secondary schools. An inter-ministerial team is to work on creating the program, the basic structure of which should be ready by the end of June 2024.

Nowacka added that there will be postgraduate studies and courses designed for teachers.

She went on to say that the new program would be subject to extensive public consultations, which will most likely start in September or October of this year.
