It has been more than two years since Russia invaded its western neighbor on February 24, 2022. Edvards Smiltēns, Latvian MP and former speaker of the Latvian Parliament (Saeima), highlighted that Riga has supported Kyiv and has pledged an aid amounting to EUR 850 million (USD 920.52 million), hoping that Ukraine would win the war against Russia.
“Right now, the biggest question is how Ukraine could win this war,” Smiltēns says.
Smiltēns adds that while some other European nations can do more than they are doing at the moment, Latvia is doing all it can to support Ukraine. “Latvia is a small country, but we can lead by example.”
