Rebuilding Polish-Israeli relations “will be a long and difficult process, but I believe our nations need each other,” Poland’s former Ambassador to Israel Maciej Kozłowski said in an exclusive TVP World interview.
He referred to the Polish-Israeli relationship and the recent incident in Gaza where an IDF airstrike resulted in the death of seven aid workers, including a Polish citizen.
According to the ambassador, the history of relations between Poland and Israel has been complicated for some years now.
“Israel is very divided politically and apart from the far right, and apart from the people who also believe that the whole world is united against Israel, there are people who understand the complexity of the situation and who want a change,” he explained, referring to those in Israel who continuously portray the rest of the world, including Poles, as antisemites.
The ambassador also commented on the recent Israeli ambassador to Poland’s social media post in which he indicated that there are anti-semites in the Polish political class.

“The ambassador’s role is to soothe relations not to ignite them, the role of ambassador is to facilitate a situation when crisis erupts, an ambassador should be a solution to the problem, not the problem itself,” he pointed out.Skrajna prawica i lewica w Polsce oskarżają Izrael o umyślne morderstwo we wczorajszym ataku, w skutek którego śmierć ponieśli członkowie organizacji humanitarnej, w tym obywatel Polski. Situation in Israel
Kozłowski also recalled the protests that were taking place in Israel against the current government up until the October 7 attack, and how despite the ongoing war in Gaza demonstrations are picking up once again.
“Now the demonstrations are picking up again, even in the war situation. So I hope that the situation in Israel will change, and with the change in Israel this relation [Polish-Israeli] might improve,” the ambassador noted.
He also pointed to U.S. President Joe Biden’s conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, where the American president stressed that the strikes on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation in Gaza are unacceptable.
“I think that the patience of the American administration for the current government of Israel is coming to an end,” he concluded.
