Up to 350,000 Ukrainian refugees working in Poland, data show

A study commissioned and financed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and carried out by Deloitte has shown that between 225,000 and 350,000 refugees from Ukraine are currently working in Poland.

The report highlighted that the refugees from Ukraine were able to quickly enter the country’s labor market.

It said that within months of arriving, they transitioned from relying on humanitarian aid and personal savings to being employed workers and entrepreneurs who contributed additional tax revenue and social insurance payments.

According to Deloitte, about 80% of refugee households now derive income from paid work in Poland, including full-time and temporary jobs, as well as self-employment.

By remaining in Poland as workers, business owners, consumers, and taxpayers, refugees from Ukraine contributed an estimated 0.7–1.1% to Poland’s total GDP in 2023.

The taxes paid by refugees reached between PLN 10 billion-14 billion (EUR 2.3 bln-3.3 bln) in 2022 and between PLN 15 billion-20 billion (EUR 3.4 bln-4.7 bln) in 2023, the study shows.
