We express deep regret because of what has happened in Gaza; we will further investigate this tragic incident to understand what exactly took place and take every possible measure to ensure it won’t be repeated again, said Israel’s ambassador to Poland and TVP World’s guest Yacov Livne, referring to the recent death of a Polish aid worker in Gaza.
On Tuesday, Damian Soból, a Polish aid worker from the World Central Kitchen, died in an attack on a humanitarian convoy in Gaza for which the Israeli Army took responsibility.
According to the ambassador, the IDF has never targeted civilians. He stressed that the only targets in Gaza are always Hamas terrorists, who are often hiding among the civilian population. Yacov Livne called the Tuesday death of the World Central Kitchen volunteers “a real tragedy that happened during times of war.”
Commenting on the fact that the convoy was hit not once, but three times, ambassador Livne refrained from getting into details, reiterating that the IDF does not hit humanitarian convoys on purpose.
“But a tragic event has happened and we need to investigate it. We hope that the results of the investigation will be clear in the matter of days and we will be able to share this information with our friends in Poland,” he said, adding that he is in contact with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Yacov Livne gave no specific answer when asked about the possibility of working in parallel with the prosecutor’s office in Przemyśl. He once again stressed that Israel will conduct their own investigation, but the proceedings, given the ongoing war, could take some time.
