The spokesman for the U.S. Department of State has stated that the country's commitment to NATO and Poland is “ironclad”. This statement was made after Poland reported a violation of its airspace by a Russian missile.
Matthew Miller told a press briefing on Monday that the U.S. Department had been in contact with Polish authorities over the incident.
“Our commitment to NATO and the security of our NATO allies, which of course includes Poland, is ironclad, and it will not waver,” he said in response to a question by a Polish Press Agency (PAP) reporter.
On Sunday, a Russian missile momentarily entered Polish airspace during a massive missile attack on Ukraine, causing Poland to raise the alert level for its armed forces.
Upon being questioned whether the U.S. believed that Poland would be within its rights to shoot down the missile, he replied, “I'm not going to speak on behalf of decisions made by a foreign country.”
